D-
The
Interactive
Spelling Wrecker
by Craig Hickman
D- takes your perfectly good spelling and makes it
horrible. Besides making common spelling errors, it also switches homonyms,
makes typing errors and can add unwanted comments to your writing.
You can type directly into the text box, or
you can paste text in from another application (like a word processor)
or from the web. (Please note that there is occasionally a bug that
requires you to "Paste" twice before the text shows up.)
Here's what the Buttons do:
Wreck It! "Processes" the
text, making the "desired" changes.
Un-Wreck Restores the text
to the way it was before Wreck It! was pressed.
Clear Text Erases any text
entered.
Copy Copies all text to
the clipboard so you can paste it into another program (like a word
processor or email).
Here's what Check Boxes do:
General Errors Adds common
spelling mistakes, like mixing up "ible" and "able."
Homonyms Always tries to
make sure you are using the wrong form of a homonym, like using blew
instead of blue.
Bad Typing Makes anyone
into a real fumble fingers. Sometimes it's "teh" instead of "the" and
"$t*p" instead of "stop."
Opposites This one switches
words like "up" and "down."
Running Commentary Randomly adds common phrases to
your text.
General Errors and Homonyms are on
by default and Bad
Typing, Opposites and Running Commentary are
off.
Why Use D-? It is increasingly evident that
people with dyslexia tend to be more creative and insightful than the
general population, and employers are beginning to look for
dyslexic individuals to hire and promote. If you are not dyslexic
D- lets you get in on the dyslexia gravy train by helping you fake
it!
